Estimating Population Size

چکیده

All monitoring programs are designed to detect change in population size. Some require, in addition, estimates of population size itself. Two approaches to making such estimates, using various m ark-recapture methods or removal sampling, are described in this chapter. Whatever the method, estimation of population size requires extensive data collection and analysis and is labor-intensive and timeconsuming (Southwood 1978). Therefore, such estimates should be included in a project design only when the research question requires detailed knowledge of the target population. Mark-recapture

Optimal and Sustainable City Size by Estimating Surplus Function for Metropolitans of Iran

By shouldering the burden of a big chunk of global production, and giving Shelter to half of the world’s population, currently cities play an important role in national economies. Benefits of agglomeration in cities have played a major role in the process of economic development of different countries, however, the expansion of urbanization has produced some problems including environmental and...

On Estimating a De Facto Population and Its Components

Abstract. This paper deals with estimating a population that is largely defined by the fact that its size, composition, and distribution are not readily accessible from census data in the U.S. and the other countries that use the De Jure concept of population. The population in question is based on the De Facto concept, which involves the estimation of people where they are found rather than wh...

Estimating the economic value of Khorram Abad Falak al-Aflak castle by regional travel cost method

Investigating the economic value of tourism areas is one of the topics of interest in studies of tourism economics. Investigating the economic value of recreational areas in terms of cost-benefit policy-making and tourism analysis is essential. The purpose of this study was to estimate the economic value of Falak al-Aflak castle of Khorram Abad by regional travel cost method. The research metho...

Estimating hidden population size using Respondent-Driven Sampling data.

Respondent-Driven Sampling (RDS) is n approach to sampling design and inference in hard-to-reach human populations. It is often used in situations where the target population is rare and/or stigmatized in the larger population, so that it is prohibitively expensive to contact them through the available frames. Common examples include injecting drug users, men who have sex with men, and female s...

Gaussian process-based Bayesian nonparametric inference of population size trajectories from gene genealogies.

Changes in population size influence genetic diversity of the population and, as a result, leave a signature of these changes in individual genomes in the population. We are interested in the inverse problem of reconstructing past population dynamics from genomic data. We start with a standard framework based on the coalescent, a stochastic process that generates genealogies connecting randomly...
